Full Halloween Moon

When Remus Lupin learned in the calendar that the last day of this month would be the full moon, his heart sank with this worst fact ever in the world. Oh damn you bloody full moon! He buried his gloomy curse into his heavy pages, laying himself heavily down in his four-poster than having any solving. Pulling his feather pillow on his face, he murmured to himself. Adios, my Halloweens; Adios, my Hogsmeade; and Adios, my Butterbeers and dear chocolates.

Yes. His good old mates James Potter and Sirius Black had planned since couples weeks ago that they would have their secret adventure on this rare holiday though they were not allowed to leave Hogwarts but present in the dull celebrating feast. For James and Sirius -- especially the later -- breaking a rule was among the top three of their favorite. They suggested visit Hogsmeade by a hidden tunnel. James also had a full schedule that he would make it a wonderful date with Lily, his dearest sweetheart, in such a special holiday. Boys had well prepared for this coming day and counted everyday longing for this exciting trip. Longing enough to beat Remus down to the bottom. Well, Remus closed his eyes with great depression in the darkness in the pillow, but well now. It goes far away from me now. My Halloweens with you guys. Sirius and James. I will be left with the most troublesome paperwork of Pro. Slughorn as my only accompany on this Halloweens. Or worse, I may need to sleep while you're having your fantastic time in the Three Broomsticks to avoid transfiguration or making any trouble.

Every time in this case, Remus Lupin would found his blood and gene as a werewolf more than regretful. Even hateful, he thought. Especially when he was forced to be aware of those differences between he and his best fellows in his life – even though both of them had ignored it or even seemed never realizing it. However, the moon never forgot. Once a month all the troubles would come back onto the table. The huge full moon always reminded this young lycanthrope all his pitiful memories and repelling blood. Well. He remembered well. So well even when he was old enough to go to the other world and this would still be carved in his gravestone. There's another thing threatened Remus more, more than those memories or his blood, which was rooted much deeper in his bone and soul and returned in nightmares from time to time. THE LONELINESS. Yes. That was it. The abyssal loneliness due to the undeniable gap between human beings and werewolves. He could see its heavy shadow fell in front of his feet again, for he would again be left behind, though his friends would stay with him if he asked them to. But kindest Remus would not.

"You really need to stay, Moony?" James asked with worries when he pulled his invisible cloak in his bag. All the students had left for the Halloweens feast that would start in half an hour.

"Yes, I should." Remus nodded though unwillingly.

Sirius stopped combing his hairs and turned to him. "Come with us, Moony; we can do everything to protect you if you transfigure."

"We can stop you and also transfigure with you." James added.

"It isn't a good idea, guys." Remus beamed. He was grateful for them. "You know, I will lose my mind when I turn into a beast and become fierce; besides, how about your date with Evans if you transfigure, James? You've been looking forward to it since Easter."

James silenced. He surely dreamed to date with Lily but he also concerned about his good old fellow.

Remus patted him on his back, comforting, "Don't worry Prongs, I'll be alright. Just have fun, guys; and I should go to the Shrieking Shack now or the moon will rise soon."

"Okay. Take good care of yourself, Moony." Sirius threw a thoughtful gaze on him though he missed to catch it. "Happy Halloweens."

"Happy Halloweens and enjoy." They waved goodbye and headed to their ways.

Now Remus was lying on the trunks in the Shrieking Shack, attempting to concentrate on his paper on Potions. But he was upset while his mind was filled up with all the wonderful schedules they made for the Halloweens before. Padfoot and Prongs must be having a crazy time now in Hogsmeade, drinking their Butterbeers in the Three Broomsticks and listing all the funny terms bought in Zonko's Joke Shop, nice chocolates in their pockets and fantastic games around them. I could have toasted with them two. He took a long sigh and blew out the only oil-lamp in the room. All the curtains were drawn close to prevent the light of the full moon. Remus lay back in the complete darkness and closed his eyes.

"Moony."

He heard a voice half dreamingly; he lay still. I'm dreaming now. He thought.

"Moony, you sleep now?"

He heard again; this time he was sure he was not dreaming.

Handsome face spread in his view and he cried out with surprise,"Sirius? Is that you?"

Grey eyes flickering in the darkness; Sirius cackled when he threw his arm around Remus' shoulders, "Trick or Treat?"

"For Merlin's sake, why?" Remus gasped and lowered his voice, "You must be in Hogsmeade now."

"Hmm, I cannot stand to be a bloody guardian for that couple or whatever." Sirius lighted the lamp. Remus noticed his Dracula cloak and pumpkin lantern in hand. "I think I will be shot to death by their glares if I stayed with them for one more minute." He winked at Remus with a playful look. And Remus laughed.

"You look perfectly good," Sirius looked him up and down, then smiled in relief, "I thought you might turn into a wolf and had an amazing performance in the feast."

"You know I never show out at a masquerade." Remus replied lightheartedly. He knew his friend was caring him. He should never be more grateful and moved. He said sincerely, "Thank you, Padfoot; Thank you."

Sirius smirked and held out his hand: "Trick or Treat?"

This put Remus into bewilderment. "Well, you know I hurried here and brought no candy with me…"

"So I will take one of your favorite chocolate before I give you the rest." Sirius poured a mountain of chocolate out from his cloak magically. Honey chocolate. Milk chocolate. Shrieking chocolate. Spicy chocolate. And others. Remus could hardly believe his eyes. It was like a dream!

A better present followed. Sirius gave him a big hug and murmured with his forehead against his, "Listen, my old chap: I will never leave you alone whenever you need me. If you transfigure to a wolf then I will turn into a dog by your side. Of course, Prongs will too. You're always our best fellow, Moony."

"Thanks. Thanks, Siri." Remus felt his throat stuck. He found no words so he could only repeat. "Thanks."

The grey-eyed boy pulled his Dracula cloak on his fellow and shouted with great delight. They laughed maniacally and buried themselves in all the fantastic terms from Hogsmeade together.

"Happy Halloweens! And your full moon!"
