Succedaneum

"Drop the syringe in your hand and leave that alone--NOW."

"A great brain as mine can only maintain its vitality and activity with the aid of an extraordinary challenging case or a common stimulant with inappreciable harm. However, as you can see now, since I should not expect the former in this peaceful country belongs to the Queen nor the latter in this peaceful room belongs to YOU, my Watson--"

The grey-eyed detective is lounging in his armchair while holding up his hands composedly without any sense of guilty being caught in the act. Ignoring the burning anger in those beautiful emerald-green eyes and the miserable end of those small bottles abandoned on the floor, Sherlock Holmes narrows his eyes and looks his companion up and down in a way which may commit impudicity in high spirits. THAT is the most interesting thing in this world, he believes, from the very beginning and will to the end of end, far more interesting than any mysterious cases or puzzles. He continues in his usual bantering tone though he dares not and can not deny the aspiration for any tiny fluke rising in his mind at this moment.

"I'd like to--and obviously I do have sufficient reasons with me--rely on YOUR OWN WAY to cheer me up rather than a succedaneum--in this instance."

To his surprise, the doctor's anger is cleared. Instead, a bright and graceful smile which Holmes has never seen decorates his lips. So sweet and charming that even Holmes--our greatest detective owns the worldwide honor--misses the rare prankish evil flitting by. John Watson keeps smiling and approaches, cutting the distance between them to zero, and then stops just before him within his reach. He bends forward and gives a soft gentle chuckle against his old fellow's nose which almost drives the detective mad. "Very well," he speaks in a low and enticing voice that can only be caught in the ears of his good old friend. "It's MY PLEASURE to do you this favor, my Holmes."

The smile is so enchanting like the most irresistible poison he knows that Holmes misses a beat on his strong heart this time. And the next moment his forehead is kissed--by something as cold as metal. And it really is.

"--With my revolver."

因電影中医生的那句"bring something to cheer him up"而觸發的情節。
